Easy, Bomb Red Spaghetti Sauce




I used to NEVER make my own spaghetti sauce because really why would I? There are plenty of options at the grocery store! But when I did start making my own I never turned back and you won't either! The ingredients come together in 10 mins and all you have to do is simmer this sauce for 1.5 hours (or less!).


Here’s the recipe!


Servings 6

Ingredients:


  • 1 Yellow Onion

  • 4 Garlic Cloves

  • 1 lbs Ground Beef (omit or use Beyond Meat for vegetation version)

  • 28 oz can of Whole Peeled Tomatoes (San Marzano is the brand I use)

  • 28 oz can of tomato sauce (Hunt's is the brand I use)

  • 2 x 6 oz cans of Tomato Paste (Hunts is the brand I use)

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Oregano

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Parsley

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Basil

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Thyme

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Fennel

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Salt

  • 1/2 Teaspoon of Pepper

  • 2 Bay Leaves

  • Salt and pepper to taste (at the end)



Instructions:

  1. Prep all ingredients

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat

  3. Place the chopped onion in the pan and leave it until it starts to "sweat" ~3 minutes

  4. Once the onion is ready add in the ground beef and brown for about 5 mins *Omit step or add in Shiitake mushrooms this if you're doing the vegetarian version

  5. Add in chopped garlic and cook for another minute - as soon as you can smell the garlic move to the next step

  6. Add in all canned items - whole peeled tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Stir until the tomato paste is melted and mixed in.

  7. Add in all spices and stir

  8. Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat to low, and cover and simmer for 1.5 hours
